Selenite Skyscraper Towers
These 15cm towers are carved from satin spar selenite, a stone that formed as ancient saltwater seas slowly evaporated and left behind delicate fibrous gypsum. That fibrous structure is what gives selenite its unmistakable silky sheen, a soft band of light that glides up and down the stone as you turn it. Each tower is cut with stepped, skyscraper-style shoulders, so light catches on every tier and the whole piece seems to glow from the inside out.

Tower #1 - Moonlit Steps
15cm tall
Beautifully banded with horizontal ridges running the full height, each catching light as a separate silvery stripe. Softly opaque with a creamy, milk-white body and a crisp stepped crown. The most textural of the four.

Tower #2 - Frosted Spire
15cm tall
The most rugged and natural-looking of the group, with raw fibrous faces, a broad sturdy base and a beautifully layered stepped top. Cool white with a frosted finish that glows softly rather than shining.

Tower #3 - Silver Satin
15cm tall
The smoothest and most translucent, with a clean satin sheen running vertically through the body and a pale wisp of white cloud near the base. A distinct blue-white shimmer lifts across the middle when the light hits it right.

Tower #4 - Winter Light
15cm tall
The brightest shimmer of the four, with a luminous blue-white band of light that sweeps across the centre like moonlight on snow. Crisp stepped tiers and a lovely clear glow toward the base.

About the Material
Selenite is a crystallised form of gypsum, calcium sulfate dihydrate, and the silky variety used for these towers is properly called satin spar. It grows in long parallel fibres, and it is light bouncing along those fibres that creates the moving sheen known as chatoyancy. Selenite is a soft stone at just 2 on the Mohs hardness scale, so keep your tower dry and away from water, which will dissolve and dull the surface.
