Physical Formation
Larvikite is an intrusive igneous rock (a variety of monzonite) composed mostly of ternary feldspars. As the molten rock cools extremely slowly deep subterraneanly, feldspar minerals separate into fine layers, creating a striking schiller effect (labradorescence) when light hits the surface.
Color: Dark gray, bluish-black, or charcoal with brilliant shimmering silver-blue flash reflections
Mohs Hardness: 6 – 6.5
