Arfvedsonite
Physical Formation
Arfvedsonite is a rare sodium amphibole silicate mineral that crystallizes within alkaline igneous rocks, such as nepheline syenites and granitic pegmatites. It develops as elongated, bladed, or fibrous prismatic crystal structures deep within the Earth's crust, characterized by brilliant, fan-like metallic flashes across its cleavage planes when caught by light.
Color: Dark black to deep bluish-black with striking bright metallic blue, teal, or golden-copper flashes
Mohs Hardness: 5.5 – 6
Common Sources: Greenland, Russia (Kola Peninsula), Canada, and the United States
Zodiac Signs Associated With: Gemini, Sagittarius
Chakras Associated With: Crown Chakra, Third Eye Chakra
Metaphysical Associations
Arfvedsonite is strongly associated with spiritual insight, manifestation, mental clarity, and profound self-reflection. Crystal enthusiasts often use it as a symbolic tool to dispel negative thought patterns, clear energetic blockages, and inspire purposeful action during times of major life transition.
Fun Fact
Arfvedsonite was first discovered in Greenland in 1823 and was named in honor of the Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson, who famously discovered the chemical element lithium in 1817.
