Agate

Physical Formation
Agate is a common variety of microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) that forms primarily within the cavities and vesicles of volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Over time, silica-rich solutions percolate through these spaces, depositing layer upon layer of microcrystalline quartz to create distinctive concentric banding, swirling patterns, and colorful inclusions.

It is believed to encourage composure, self-acceptance, and lasting peace.

Fun Fact
Agate was named in antiquity by the Greek philosopher Theophrastus after the Achates River (now the Dirillo River) in Sicily, where large deposits of the mineral were first discovered.
